“We work together to fight HIV and AIDS. We have come together to combat discrimination”

Balou Chabat, President of FIMIZORE

In Madagascar, sex workers are among those most vulnerable to HIV and sexually transmitted infections. Yet they have some of the poorest access to prevention and treatment services.

A new leaflet available in English and French highlights some of the issues that sex workers in Madagascar face and outlines the work that FIMIZORE, a network of sex workers' organisations, is doing to address them.

FIMIZORE works in ten of Madagascar’s largest cities to prevent HIV and reduce the stigma and human rights abuses that many sex workers face. It does this by providing training, sharing information and advocacy work. The Alliance has provided financial and organisational support to FIMIZORE since its creation in 2005.

The leaflet outlines some of FIMIZORE’s achievements, which include an increase in the number of sex workers voluntarily accessing health services, and FIMIZORE being awarded a UNAIDS Red Ribbon Award.
