Sub-granting to community-based partners
The Alliance Zambia has received support from the Global Fund through its civil society principal recipient, the Zambia National AIDS Network (ZNAN). With this funding it is providing grants and technical assistance to a range of partners across Zambia. Grants range from 50-100 million Kwacha and focus on the following thematic areas:
- Prevention among high risk or specific groups, including commercial sex workers, truck drivers and uniformed personnel
- Counselling and testing: activities around counselling and testing focus on community mobilisation for increased access to voluntary counselling and testing in the health facilities and testing centres found in the selected provinces
- Prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT): selected community-based partners are supported to mobilise communities for increased access to prevention of mother to child transmission services. This includes ensuring that eligible pregnant mothers are able to access PMTCT services and ensuring the greater involvement – and support – of men in PMTCT.
- People living with HIV: the Alliance believes in greater involvement of people living with HIV so that there is increased visibility, participation and action by positive people themselves. Activities include help in setting up support groups of people living with HIV, promoting the reduction of stigma and discrimination and increased awareness around issues of treatment adherence among those who are on treatment. A priority is also given to increased care and support to positive people in the community.
- Orphans and vulnerable children: this support to partners is intended to ensure that children directly benefit from the funding by receiving material, education and psychosocial support in order to increase their resilience, social connectedness and health.
- Youth: the Alliance supports organisations that provide space for young people’s participation in HIV prevention. Strategic communication for behaviour change is the pillar for this kind of programme.
