New testing centre in Senegal offers an entry point to better treatment

28 March 2007

A new voluntary and anonymous testing centre opened by the Alliance Nationale Contre le SIDA (ANCS) will bring people in Senegal improved opportunities for HIV testing, which is also the entry point to better treatment. Sida Service will run the Global Fund-financed centre in Thiès, a region 70 kilometres from Dakar.

The newly refurbished centre houses a reception area, two consulting rooms, a blood test room, an analysis laboratory, a pharmacy and a multipurpose room. A delegation from the Alliance linking organisation ANCS were shown around the new premises in February by a representative from the architectural practice that had worked on the building.

The delegation who officially opened the centre included Jules Corréa, local fund agent representative, Cheikh Sidiya Gassama, head of financial and administrative affairs, Massogui Thiandoum, head of the ANCS Global Fund programme and staff from Sida Service Dakar and Thiès, headed by Paul Sagna and Joachin Ndione.
