Supporting civil society organisations to reach key populations in the Latin American and Caribbean region

A look at HIV/AIDS projects financed by the World Bank

Supporting civil society organisations to reach key populations in the Latin American and Caribbean region Supporting CSOs to reach key populations in LAC (English) 517.1Kb

The Alliance commissioned this study to improve understanding of the dynamics of  World Bank financed projects concerning civil society organisations (CSOs) and key populations (KPs).

The study assesses the extent to which World Bank projects are supporting civil society organisations to reach  key populations (men who sex with men,  sex workers, injecting drug users and people living with HIV) in Latin American and the Caribbean.

The study has two main outputs:

  • An initial mapping of World Bank  AIDS prevention and control projects and the role of CSOs and KPs in those projects
  • Identification of factors that impede or facilitate CSO access to World Bank resources.

The Alliance is committed to supporting universal access by 2010. To reach universal access, funding and technical support agencies must act in coordination and communities most at risk must be prioritised in HIV resource allocation.

The study has information relating to 13 World Bank projects: ten in the Caribbean and three in Latin America
