Universal access: delivering on the promise for key populations

One day conference

In the face of massive challenges and the continuing spread of HIV, 2005 saw the emergence of a new international consensus to tackle the ongoing threat and impact of the pandemic. This resulted in the historic commitment to ensure universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care by 2010.

However, there is little hope of delivering on this promise without a concerted effort to ensure that services are developed and delivered in association with communities that are both at highest risk of HIV and disproportionately affected by it.

Universal access: delivering the promise for key populations is a free one-day conference in London on Friday 17 November, at which the Alliance and its implementing partners will share their experiences of developing and delivering HIV prevention services in association with sex workers, men who have sex with men, and people living with HIV in India, Ecuador, Cambodia, Morocco and Madagascar.

Speakers will include leading figures from these communities, together with local project implementers from community organisations.

Key policy and decision makers and funding agencies including governments, philanthropic foundations and multilateral agencies will also share the implications of these experiences for delivering the promise of universal access to key populations.

The event will be of interest and relevance to all those with an interest in realising the promise of improved access to HIV prevention, treatment and care, including policy makers and programmers working in international development agencies, academics, researchers and students. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants in Universal access: delivering on the promise for key populations are invited to join us for the London launch of Unheard Voices, Hidden Lives, an exhibition and book of photos and stories by people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
