Access to treatment and care services for key populations in low prevalence settings

Thursday 17 August. Time: 18:00-20:00. Location: Skills Building Room 10, Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The session will focus on and highlight issues related to clinical care and services including treatment access for disempowered communities who are key to the dynamics of transmission of the epidemic in low prevalence settings. These populations include female sex workers, men who have sex with men and drug users.

Presentations will be made by speakers from diverse backgrounds – acclaimed professionals in the field of clinical care and key population community members who have advocated successfully for such services. Areas covered in the presentations will include treatment interventions and associated support interventions such as treatment literacy and psychosocial support; strategies for building effective peer groups and advocacy; the ‘harder core’ access to STI treatments, essential HIV care and ARVs for key populations and the impact on HIV prevention resulting from improved access to treatment and care. The session will include experiences from the Frontiers Prevention Project of the Alliance
